Solving Equations

Medical Math

  • Created by: by Alan Bass and Terrie Teegarden, San Diego Mesa College
  • Type of activity:  lecture, small group problem solving (paper and pencil)
  • Course level: Pre Algebra
  • Topic: Solving equations
  • Materials:  None
  • Time required: 20 to 30 minutes
  • Description: Student use a formula to solve problems provided by Mesa College’s  Veterinary Program.  The equations are the simplest of linear equations. When doctors, nurses, and veterinarians want a particular dosage of medicine, they often have to dilute a “stock solution” with sterile water. In this activity students will generate equations and solve them in order to figure out how to correctly dilute a dosage of medicine.
