- Created by: by Alan Bass and Terrie Teegarden, San Diego Mesa College
- Type of activity: lecture, small group problem solving (paper and pencil)
- Course level: Beginning Algebra
- Topic: Slope and Rate of Change
- Materials: None
- Time required: 30 -40 minutes
- Description: Students create ordered pairs, graph depreciating car values, calculate rates of depreciation, then learn rate = slope
- Implementation notes (follow up/discussion questions, pedagogical recommendations, etc.): Students have a hard time following directions on this so it is a good idea to show them a sketch of what the graph should look like. Maybe even show them the first set of ordered pairs..
