Created by: Chris Silva
Type of activity: Instructor-guided, hands-on activity
Course level: Intermediate Algebra
Topic: review of graphing & linear modeling / intro to piecewise-defined
functions
Materials: pencil, paper, graph paper
Approximate time required: 20 minutes
Short Description:
Students will be presented with a cell phone plan whose total cost is
defined by a piecewise function. Students will calculate a few points, then
use the points to graph the function. After some discussion, students will
create an equation for each part of the graph. A discussion of domain and
range will conclude the lesson.
